Watch Service
The Watch Service has been deprecated in favor of the Event Handler feature, which allows you to create the same Watch Service data usage notifications but with additional customization options. For more information, refer to the Event Handler documentation.
If you prefer to use the old Watch Service configuration interface, you can access it by clicking the link from the Event Handler screen.
The Watch Service provides a simple way to receive notifications and control the available bandwidth of your Air devices based on data usage rules.
Watch Service Rules
Notifications and bandwidth control are based on the following rules:
| Rule | Description |
|---|---|
| Daily traffic of any SIM | Rule takes effect for any SIM that exceeds the configured data usage amount within one day *1 |
| Monthly traffic of any SIM | Rule takes effect for any SIM that exceeds the configured data usage amount within the current month *2 |
| Lifetime traffic of any SIM | Rule takes effect for any SIM that exceeds the configured data usage amount since the SIM's registration |
| Total monthly traffic of all SIMs *3 | Rule takes effect when the combined data usage amount exceeds the configured amount within the current month |
*1 - Data Usage for any daily period is calculated from 12:00 AM (midnight) UTC.
*2 - Data Usage for any monthly period is calculated from the first day of the month to the last day of the month.
*3 - Total monthly traffic of all SIMs option is only available for global Watch Service configuration.
Watch Service Actions
The Watch Service provides two types of actions that take effect when a rule is met:
- Send an email - Sends an email to the email address registered to your Soracom account.
- Downgrade speed class - Temporarily downgrades the Speed Class of the Air SIM(s) for the remainder of the period.
Configuration
Watch Service rules can be applied directly to an individual Air SIM, to a Group of Air SIMs, or to all Air SIMs in your account.
Individual Usage

Login to the User Console. From the Menu, open the SIM Management screen.

From the list of subscribers, click the for the SIM you want to modify, then click the Details button.

In the SIM Details dialog, click the Watch tab.
- Enter the data usage rules for the device, then click Apply.
Group Usage

Login to the User Console. From the Menu, open the Groups screen.

From the list of groups, click the name of the group you want to configure to open its settings page.

From the Basic settings tab, click the Watch panel to expand its settings.
- Enter the data usage rules for the group, then click Apply.
Global Usage

Login to the User Console. From the Menu, open the Watch screen.
- Enter the global data usage rules for your account, then click Apply.
Advanced Monitoring
For applications that require advanced monitoring behavior, you can use Event Handler functionality to develop a custom solution. Refer to the Event Handler documentation for further information.
